Porsche 718 Boxster At Porsche Downtown Chicago
The new Porsche 718 Boxster, now available at Porsche Downtown Chicago, is easily one of the most popular two-passenger sports cars in the world today. Well-known for its handling, style and performance, not to mention its race-bred heritage, it's a vehicle that continues to prove the adage, "Porsche: There is no substitute."
While Porsche 718 is this car's formal name, it is widely known as the Boxster. What's a Boxster, you ask? Generally speaking, it's a mashup resulting from its Boxer flat cylinder engine (Box) and the fact it's a two-seat Roadster ('ster). Let's find out what makes the 718 Boxster so compelling.
What Is The Porsche 718 Boxster?
Introduced in 1996, the Porsche 718 Boxster is now into its fourth generation. Designed as a two-seat, mid-engined sports roadster, it presents a buyer with four different engine choices. Base power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four boxer engine making 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque for the 718 Boxster and Boxster T. If you need more motivation, step up to the turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four engine. This combo delivers 350 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. It powers the more energetic 718 Boxster S.
A pair of six-cylinder Boxer engines round out the offerings for the Porsche 718 Boxster. They are both naturally-aspirated (non-turbocharged) flat-six engines. Both measure at 4.0-liters, with the first making 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque in the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. The more powerful 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engine makes 414 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque and powers the Porsche 718 Spyder.
These engines are all mated to Porsche's standard six-speed automatic transmission. A quite stellar Porsche PDK double-clutch automatic transmission is available for those who want something that shifts a bit faster. It's an automated double-clutch gearbox that preloads the next gear for a quicker gear change than humanly possible.

718 Boxster Exterior
What Does The New 718 Boxster Look Like?
From a distance, the Porsche Boxster sports an elegant profile that doesn't go crazy with wings and things or other affected styling elements. Instead, the 718 Boxster starts with a finely sculpted tub that is a case of form following function. A massive under-bumper series of intake scoops join side air intakes prominently fashioned into the Boxster body. They do their best to cool the turbocharged or larger, naturally-aspirated engines. They are purpose-built, so it is extremely safe to say that if a side scoop or a wide intake exists, it is there for a reason.
The Porsche Boxster features a large amount of its structure made from aluminum. This results in minimal weight with maximum strength. The Boxster's design incorporates a GT-inspired long nose with a short tail for a perfectly balanced front-to-rear weight bias. The Porsche Boxster is constructed to take advantage of performance tires ranging from 18- to 20-inches. The Boxster's suspension configurations vary according to a buyer's choice of models.
The new Porsche 718 Spyder features a modified look that is slightly different from the standard Porsche Boxster. A new front-bumper design is functional and provides differentiation from standard model Boxsters. There is an operational vent on the hood's leading edge. The roof features a different silhouette, with tapered streamliners behind each headrest. In addition to adding visual interest, these streamliners provide added aerodynamic benefits while the Spyder is underway. The appearance is pure performance. It's pure Porsche.
718 Boxster Interior
And What About Inside The New Boxster?
The Porsche 718 Boxster interior is a performance-oriented and sophisticated look at the modern sports car. Inside the cockpit are form-fitting seats to keep the driver and passenger in place while exercising furiously on a winding road. The Boxster is equipped with a three-gauge display to keep the driver informed of the essentials. The seats also prove they are up to the task of keeping occupants well-bolstered and in the proper position. So well-designed, they are available in various colors and styles and provide lasting comfort for track day or cross-country traverses alike.
The Porsche Boxster is known for its track and stellar street abilities. As good as it is in those realms, you might want to look the other way when it comes to using it to move to a new home. But that doesn't mean you can't carry items in the 5.3-cubic foot "frunk" (literally a front trunk). If you manage to fill that up, there's also the 4.4-cubic foot rear storage bin.
How about audio systems, as if the note from the Porsche exhaust isn't enough? Start with a standard six-speaker audio system that should satisfy most audio tastes. But if you are a true audiophile, a 12-speaker Burmester 821-watt surround-sound audio system fills the cabin with just a little more excitement. Apple CarPlay is an available option for the Boxster.

Boxster Trim Options
Unlike an off-the-rack suit, there's no such thing as a standard "off-the-rack" Porsche 718 Boxster. Porsche has designed the Boxster so you can equip it as you like. There is no need to buy an entire package just to get a unique suspension part. These parts can be ordered in an ala carte manner as well. The well-known Sport Chrono package, the PDK transmission, the adaptive suspension, and torque-vectoring mechanical limited-slip differential are all available individually.
Additionally, carbon trim accents, custom leather seat covers and interior color choices are part of these various schemes and can help make your new Porsche 718 Boxster truly your own.
Safety On Board
The new Porsche 718 Boxster saves weight by including an air compressor and tire-sealing compound instead of a spare tire. Safety features include eight airbags, electronic stability controls and other safety assists like lane departure warning and more. The Porsche warranty is for a 4-year/50,000-mile duration and includes complimentary roadside assistance during that same period. When you do need to service your Porsche, our service center team of Certified Porsche Technicians at Porsche Downtown Chicago will be here for you.

What Is The Porsche 718 Cayman?
The Porsche 718 Cayman was introduced in 1996. The 2021 model is part of the fourth generation of this design. It is more evolutionary in nature than a total remake of the mid-engine two-seat sports coupe that is a mash-up between the second and third-generation Boxster Roadster and a Porsche 911.
The Porsche 718 is a stylized version of the name Caiman, which is a member of the alligator family. A brief aside: Porsche sued the popular rubber shoe company, Crocs after they tried to name a line of shoes using the Cayman name. That didn't go too well, with Crocs ending up on the receiving end of a court injunction preventing them from following through with their plan of selling Cayman shoes in Germany.

718 Cayman Performance
As with the Porsche 718 Boxster, there are four engine choices for the new Porsche 718 Cayman. Buyers may start with a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque for the 718 Cayman and Cayman T. A more robust 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine making 350 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque powers the more potent 718 Cayman S.
Six-cylinder fans can take advantage of a pair of naturally-aspirated flat-6 engines, including a 4.0-liter 6-cylinder producing 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque in the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 4.0-liter 6-cylinder making 414 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque as seen in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4.
A six-speed manual gearbox is a standard offering throughout the range. But for those who love the latest in technology, Porsche's ultra-trick PDK double-clutch automatic transmission is an option that changes gears faster than possible with a driver's deft touch.
718 Cayman Exterior
How Does the Porsche 718 Cayman Look?
If you squint from a distance, the Porsche 718 Cayman takes on the profile of its bigger brother, the Porsche 911. The Cayman, like the Boxster, features a long nose and short tail, with perfect proportions that lend themselves to a well-balanced sports coupe. The Cayman is constructed and optimized for 18- to 20-inch wheels and tires. The Cayman's body utilizes various scoops and intakes that are cleverly incorporated functionally to assist with cooling the turbo-assisted or larger naturally-aspirated engines.
Suspensions are adapted to the version of Porsche Cayman you select. Typically, the higher the vehicle's performance, the lower the Cayman's ride height.
718 Cayman Interior
And What About The Cockpit?
The interior of the Porsche 718 Cayman fits like a finely-styled leather glove. It can accommodate many drivers, even if they happen to measure up to or exceed six feet tall. While the Cayman, and all Porsche vehicles, are predominately luxury-performance vehicles, we find its interior is more purpose-built than other vehicles in this segment.
Since its early days, Porsche has been known for its 5-gauge instrument panel. The Cayman includes only three, but they are the important ones! The 718 Cayman includes a lefthand-mounted starter button derivative of the starter button that appeared in the same location on all Porsche race cars. The theory was that as the drivers ran across the track and jumped inside their race cars, the Porsche drivers would be able to hop in while at the same time hitting the lefthand starter switch. This way, the engine would already be fired while the other drivers were just getting oriented inside their cockpits. This piece of racing heritage remains in Porsche cabins to this day.
Sport-designed bucket seats, available in various styles and colors, provide lasting comfort and support suitable for track day hops or cross-country motoring. A six-speaker audio system is standard, while an 821-watt Burmester 12-speaker surround-sound system fills the cabin with just a little more audio excitement. Apple CarPlay is an available option in the Cayman.
718 Cayman Options
718 Cayman The Way You Want It
Porsche does not require 718 Cayman owners to buy needless packages to get a particular feature or accessory. Buyers can order "ala carte" as well. For instance, a buyer can select the Porsche PDK transmission instead of the manual gearbox. The Porsche Torque Vectoring system and Porsche's Active Suspension Management system (PASM) are also available, as is the Sport Chrono package. Discuss this with your Porsche Cars sales associate, though, as there may be added savings by purchasing a higher-performance version of the car.
Safety On Board
Safety features are loaded throughout your new Porsche 718 Cayman. Start with electronic stability controls, eight airbags and other safety assists like lane departure warning for a formidable response to road conditions as they may present themselves.
Instead of a full-size spare tire, the Cayman includes an air compressor and tire-sealing compound to help out in a jam. Additionally, Porsche owners receive four years or 50,000 miles of complimentary roadside assistance. When it is time to service your Porsche, you can conveniently bring it in to our service center and rest easy knowing your Porsche is receiving the best possible care.
