How About Inside The Cayenne?

The new Macan interior is not as big as some other vehicles in the lineup but still features a proper Porsche sports-oriented interior. Attention to detail is apparent throughout, and in a nod toward Porsche purists, the Macan continues to include the traditional ignition button placement to the left of the steering wheel.

There's an interesting story behind the ignition placement. As racing lore would have it, the key was located on the left side of the steering wheel so a driver at the 24 Hours of Le Mans or other such road race could enter the car after sprinting across the track, open the door, hop in with his left hand twisting the key while his right hand was going for the steering wheel. Well, that was how it was supposed to work. Other stories have recently appeared saying the ignition wiring came up the left side of the dashboard, and instead of using another 12 inches of wiring, why not just route it through the dashboard, on the left, where it came through. The so-called Le Mans start is no longer used due to safety concerns, including drivers racing away without buckling seatbelts and harnesses. Still, the placement of the ignition control remains.

The traditional Porsche gauge arrangement lives on in the Porsche Macan. A large tachometer takes center stage, flanked by a speedometer on the left, and digital screen on the right. The center stack features a 10.9-inch touchscreen display to operate the audio system, navigation, Apple CarPlay and more.
